Natalia Melnychenko and her family, consisting of a husband (a person with disability after a stroke) and a son, who studies at the Kakhovskyi Agrarian University, live in the village Velyka Oleksandrivka.
ACTIVITY
Before the war, Natalia’s husband was engaged in farming; their son helped him. They cultivated 27.4 ha of their own land and 40 ha of leased land, planting sunflowers and cereal crops. They had all the necessary agricultural machinery and tools for tilling the land, premises for storage and production. They also raised 8 pigs and 20 chickens.
Besides, the family had their own shop with wedding dresses store, embroidered dresses, and children’s goods as an additional source of income.
WHAT HAPPENED
On March 10, 2022, russians occupied the village and organized their positions not far from Natalia’s house (50 meters away). The family lived in the basement of the house. On March 26, 2022, they shelled the crowed of civilian at the local market; the sister of Natalia’s husband was killed. That was the reason they could leave the occupied territory. They told they want to burry the sister and occupiers allowed them to leave the territory of the village. They didn’t take anything not to arouse suspicion. Thus, russians moved into their house and lived there until the liberation of Velika Oleksandrivka. They ate pigs, chickens and the all the family’s food reserve. They also stole and destroyed the equipment, machinery and other staff used for farming: cars (VAZ-2106, VAZ-199, ZIL-130), a PTS4 trailer, diesel fuel, seed material, fertilizers, and the sunflower crop (2021 MY). Besides, russians stole tools, spare parts, car wheels from the workshop; the part of new MTZ892.2 tractor, which was purchased on February 10, 2022, were taken away (battery, starter, radiator, and some parts of the fuel system), and it cannot be used now for cultivation.
Unfortunately, 4 days before the liberation of the village, Natalia’s house burned down with all the property, as a result of shelling (see photos).
HELP NEEDED
Currently, the family lives in the summer house (16m2), which was not completely destroyed. They live on their own savings and humanitarian aid, because all the fields are mined, and the store with the goods was looted and burned down.
Today, the Melnychenko family needs the help in rebuilding their own house to be able to survive the winter and go on with their farming activity after the demining of the land.
