Julia Kovalenko and her family (husband and two little children) live in the village Velyka Oleksandrivka (Kherson oblast). The husband, Kovalenko Ihor, has a second group of disability (prosthetic eye).
ACTIVITY
Before the war, they cultivated two plots of land (6 ha/14,8 acres and 7,4 ha/18,2 acres), which allowed them to get income. As for now, they are mined. The Kovalenkos planted winter wheat, barley, and sunflowers, and had pigs, as additional source of income.
WHAT HAPPENED
Their village was under occupation for 8 months (March – October). The family decided to move to Kryvyi Rih in April, as it could not have been possible later. They hid their symbol of Ukraine as russians visited their house several times. Now, the village is liberated. Julia with her family returned. But their place of life is almost damaged.
Their house was shelled on June 21, 2022. They repaired the roof (40 sheets of slate). Three windows were broken, the front door was torn out, the chimney was cut, there is a hole in the wall, the fridge was broken and is not working. Due to the rains and absence of heating, the house is uninhabitable. The other house on the yard, where their grandma lived, was completely destroyed. The warehouse for grains and seeds was damaged too.
WHAT HAS BEEN DONE
We have rebuilt the warehouse, which has been completely destroyed by the occupiers. The family can continue with their farming activity after demining of their fields.
