CONSEQUENCES OF BLOWING UP KAKHOVKA HPP
- The irrigation system of the right and the left bank of Kherson oblast is destroyed.
- According to experts, 94% of the irrigated fields of Kherson oblast are left without water, and next year they may turn into deserts.
- The Kherson fields, where grains, oil crops, watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and other vegetables of the borscht set were grown thanks to the established system of irrigation canals, will be empty.
- This year crop of watermelons in the flooded areas of the region was washed away.
- It will be impossible to conduct agriculture in the way it was before the HPP was blown up. It will take years and a lot of money to restore the irrigation system.
- According to the experts, after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP, this year, Ukraine will be without a harvest and will lose 14% of exports.
- It is still difficult to determine the exact number of the flooded area in Kherson oblast.
- On the right bank it is approximately 3 K ha, and on the left – more than 7 K ha, considering the satellite images.
- During the next 3-5 years, Ukraine will lose from 1 mln to 1,5 mln of agricultural fields due to the destroyed irrigation system.
- Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts suffered from this event.
