Attack on Lviv
March 24, 2026
- On March 24, 2026, russia launched a large-scale daytime drone attack on Lviv and the surrounding region, striking both the historic city center and residential areas.
- The attack caused fires, damaged residential buildings, and disrupted local infrastructure.
- Several cultural heritage sites within Lviv’s UNESCO-protected area were affected, including the 16th-century Bernardine Monastery, the Lviv Organ Hall, and the “Prison on Lontskoho” museum.
- At least 30 people were injured, many of them civilians.
- A tragic incident occurred near a maternity hospital that was also damaged in the attack. A Ukrainian serviceman and his young daughter were killed while visiting his wife, who was hospitalized there.
- The strike caused widespread destruction and further highlighted the ongoing risks to civilians and cultural heritage in Ukraine.
Export
March 27, 2026
Total Ukrainian exports of grains and legumes in the 2025/26 MY reached 25.6 mln tons, which is 6.6 mln tons, or 20% less than in the previous season.
- Wheat: 9.85 mln tons – 3 mln tons less than last year (-24%).
- Barley: over 1.4 mln tons – 36% less than on the same date last season.
- Rye: 0.2 K tons – dozens of times less than last year’s 10.8 K tons.
- Corn: nearly 14 mln tons – 17% less than last season.
- Flour: 49.3 K tons – 7% less than last year.
Grain Rail Shipments
March 17, 2026
- Rail transportation of grain in the first 17 days of March reached 1.73 mln tons, which is 6% more than in February and 13% higher year-on-year.
- Exports remain the key driver: 1.57 mln tons of grain were shipped to foreign markets.
- Additionally, 82.9 K tons of vegetable oil and 156.1 K tons of meal and cake were transported.
- The main volume of grain (91%) was directed to seaports, while processed products were more actively exported via western borders.
- Total transportation of agricultural products through western border crossings amounted to about 314 K tons.
- The average daily transfer of grain increased to 177 wagons per day.
Planting
March 31, 2026
As of March 31, 2026, Ukrainian farmers planted 461,4 K ha of spring grains and legumes, which is 126.8 K ha more than a week earlier.
The planting campaign has already started in 20 regions.
The largest areas so far have been planted with:
- Barley – 245,8K ha (about 11% of the forecast);
- Peas – 109,5K ha (19%);
- Wheat – 52.6 K ha (11%);
- Oats – 49,2 K ha (15%).
In total, the area under spring grains and legumes in 2026 is projected at 6 mln ha, slightly down from 6.1 mln ha last year.
In Dnipropetrovsk region have started planting millet, which has been planted on 0.25 K ha.
Farmers in the Rivne region have started planting sunflower – 1.2 K ha.
