Three Years of War (February 24, 2025)
Ukraine has lost 11% of its land since 2022
- In 2023, Ukraine liberated more territories than Russia had seized.
- In 2024, Ukraine established control over 770 square kilometers of Russian territory in the Kursk region. However, the scale of the Russian offensive increased.
Ukraine has liberated 51.1 thousand square kilometers in three years. The most in the first year of a full-scale war.
The phases of Russian occupation in Ukraine
2014
Russia illegally annexes Crimea from Ukraine, and Russian-backed separatists seize control of parts of the Donbas. Both areas remain in Russian control to this day.
2022
Russia launches a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, taking control of large areas in the north that have since been reclaimed by Ukraine. Russia maintains its fight in the south and southeast.
2025
After three years of fighting, Russia is currently occupying 18% of Ukraine, as of Feb. 20, 2025.

Thousands of civilians have died
- More than 40,000 civilians have been killed or injured in Ukraine.
- Many of the deaths were caused by explosive weapons.
Millions of Ukrainians have been displaced
Over 6.3 mln Ukrainian refugees are living in Europe:
- About 1.2 mln in Germany.
- Nearly 1 mln in Poland.
- 390,000 in the Czech Republic.
Three Years of War
- 868,230 russians were killed or wounded.
- The Defense Forces of Ukraine have destroyed more than 38,000 vehicles, more than 10,000 tanks, 701 aircraft and much more.
- Ukrainian air defence has shot down 93% of Shahed UAVs and 32% of missiles over the three years of full-scale war.
- In total, the russians launched more than 30,000 air targets at Ukraine: about 21,000 UAVs and 10,000 missiles.
Export
February, 2025
- The export volume of grain and leguminous crops from Ukraine in February 2025, amounted to 3.2 mln tons.
- This is 2.1 mln tons or 40% less than the same month last season (5.26 mln tons).
- Wheat exports amounted to 1 mln tons, which is 53% less than in February last year.
- Barley exports amounted to 60 K tons, three times less than in the same month of 2024.
- Corn exports reached 2 mln tons, 28% less than shipments in the same month last season.
- Ukrainian flour exports amounted to 4.6 K tons, which is 34% less than last year’s figure.
- The total export of Ukrainian sunflower oil for the first five months of the season is 19% lower than last year’s figure.
- 2.066 mln tons of oil have been exported so far, compared to 2.551 mln tons last year.
- 39.6 K tons of sunflower have been exported over the first five months (the lowest figure in the past three seasons).
- A large batch of sunflower was exported to France in January – more than 19 K tons.
Planting season – 2025
What will be planted in 2025?
The main trends in planting season 2025:
- Top-3 most profitable crops in 2024 — sunflower, winter rapeseed, and corn. Thanks to high grain prices and premiums for oil content, sunflower became the leader with a profitability of 106%.
- Sunflower planting areas in 2025 may increase to 5.5 million hectares, while corn is regaining its lost positions thanks to stable prices and the operation of ports.
- Soy is giving way to other crops, as its overproduction is putting pressure on the market and reducing profitability.

The total area of agricultural crops in Ukraine in 2025 will exceed 23 million hectares. Of this, 11,067 thousand hectares will be sown with grain crops, accounting for 48.1% of the total sown area.
Spring grains are expected to cover 5,825.5 thousand hectares, including:
- Corn: 4,145.5 thousand hectares;
- Spring barley: 790.2 thousand hectares;
- Spring wheat: 222.7 thousand hectares;
- Peas: 216.5 thousand hectares;
- Oats: 161.6 thousand hectares;
- Buckwheat: 86.8 thousand hectares;
- Millet: 85.5 thousand hectares.
